Introduction to Therapeutic Neuroscience Education is a 1 hour course designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of the epidemic of chronic pain, the science of chronic pain, and the clinical application of pain education. Through helping patients understand what is happening and what changes when someone has longstanding pain, we are able to decrease pain, improve movement, and improve function. This course will demonstrate how pain education should and must be used in patient care across disciplines.
Objectives:
1. Understand the epidemic and costs of chronic pain.
2. Understand the concepts of nociception and pain.
3. Understand the basic concepts of Therapeutic Neuroscience Education.
4. Evidence supporting Therapeutic Neuroscience Education.
5. Understand how to apply concepts in practice.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Mark Milligan, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT is an orthopedic manual therapist that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal spinal conditions and is Board Certified in Orthopaedics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. He earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of the Colorado, School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado. He went on to complete an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship with Evidence in Motion (EIM). He is also a member of the first cohort to be certified in Therapeutic Neuroscience Education with the International Spine and Pain Institute. He is a full-time clinician. Dr. Milligan has taught and lectured about trigger point dry needling across the country and serves as primary faculty for EIM. He serves as adjunct faculty to 2 Doctor of Physical Therapy programs. He is an active member of the APTA, TPTA, and AAOMPT and has great interest in governmental affairs. He currently holds the position of Chair of the Capital Area District of the Texas Physical Therapy Association.
When not in the clinic Mark enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, his daughter, Orli, and his Labrador, Luna. He also enjoys spending his time outdoors riding his mountain and road bikes and playing golf.
